I am a product of Youth For Christ. While a school student, my church did not have a strong youth group, so YFC became the source of my spiritual encouragement, growth, and fellowship. Most of my school friends were gained through YFC. Many are now my Facebook friends.
I was a Bible quizzer in junior high. In high school I sang in a Christian ensemble in Lansing. I attended regional YFC conventions, that were a great inspiration to me. I participated in banquets, rallies, competitions, and anything that YFC had. All of it contributed to my spiritual strength.
Today it is my joy to pastor a great church in the Bluewater area with strong connections to YFC, Hillside Wesleyan. I still have on my shelf the Bible I used all through high school, my red Youth For Christ Bible with YFC etched in gold on the cover. I keep it with fond memories and appreciation.
Thank you YFC for godly adult leaders who invested in my life. (some now Facebook friends)
A lot of YFC’s methods have changed across the years since I was a student, but the purpose is the same. YFC still reaches young people to raise them up to be lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.
I have enjoyed being apart of Youth for Christ East Michigan. They have had an amazing impact on my life and I now serve as a student leader at my group. It has been so much fun being able to talk to my friends about Jesus and having a place that I can invite people who don’t know about Jesus to come too.
Ten years ago, when Matt and I were first married, we prayerfully considered where we could donate a percentage of his income. Since my dad, Kevin Collins, had been passionate about YFC for my whole life and was working with them at the time, we easily included it in our contributions. We knew that reaching people with the gospel when they are young is so important. I think that, over the years, our understanding of that importance has grown. Recently, I realized that half of the adults in our church small group came from unbelieving families and came to know the Lord while they were in high school. Now, they are raising their children to love the Lord. It is so encouraging to see the fruit of youth ministry growing and affecting the generations!
Matt’s employer has always generously matched our donations to various organizations. For several years, our YFC contributions were not being matched because it was not an approved organization. Matt worked to make YFC approved with his employer, so now all our donations are doubled! We love knowing that our dollars are multiplied to impact the kingdom.
YFC is an incredible organization that is very deserving of our prayers, time, and finances. They are impacting youth and spreading the good news. That impact will go on for generations.
My wife and I consider giving to Youth for Christ East Michigan Kingdom Building. The programs of this organization are not fads, hype or shallow youth culture. With student lead ministry at its core, it should be evaluated on the same biblical basis as any other functioning ministry. The goal should be to make disciples. A student ministry should be purposeful, active, engaging and spiritual. For it to be Biblical it needs to follow the model of 2 Timothy 3:16-17. This is clearly the model of Jesus Himself. Teens are at the point in their lives where they need to know the truth of God, how to live a life pleasing to Him and what task He has called them to. We feel Youth For Christ East Michigan fulfills this purpose to the fullest and enjoy investing in the eternal future of today’s young people.
We choose to donate to Youth for Christ East Michigan in a significant way. While teaching in the public school system we saw much hurt and really poor decisions being made by students. In most cases, there was no positive influence in their lives.
When Christ came into the lives of these troubled kids, positive change happened. When students who are walking with Christ come along side of peers, great things happen. We support changed lives. We want to see more students have the opportunity for Christ to be their role model and mentor.
